A few months back when I attended our homie Wordspit’s video release party for his single “Poet’s Haiku” I got introduced to this amazing group The Rocketeers. Two really cool dudes that have a vibe all of their own. After chatting it up with them a little bit before they went on stage I couldn’t wait until they performed. Lights went down and they took the stage. Right on the first beat drop The Rocketeers took over the stage with their ill lyrics and dope beats. I knew right away they we’re my new “new-group-to-listen-to”. They carried the highest level of energy with every new track that played during their set. Since then we’ve stayed in touch, chatted a few times about our progress and life and reaching our goals. Just a few days ago I got a chance to get to know one half of The Rocketeers Darius “D-Win” Windfield. I guess you can say this is an intro to their FTM feature which will be dropping soon.
Flytech: So before you became a 1/2 of “The Rocketeers” what was your grind in the music game like? Basically what your daily routin was.

Darius: Man well I’m born & raised in Indianapolis IN so I moved to Chicago in 2006 i was 19,
so i was out here grinding doing open mics. Doing showcases, and I was on music heavy just trying to connect with people. It was really hard because I was in a new city and i didn’t know anyone, and no one believed in me, and didn’t take me seriously. So I just keep grinding and my boy Jermaine from the 80s Babies gave me my first show out here.
So everyday I was at school passing out my cd, going to parties networking, and eventually my boy Hustle Simmons put me on a show at Leaders, & from there I was kinda in the Chicago scene.

Flyteq: That’s dope homie. Really shows that hard work really does pay off. So how was the scene in IN?

Darius: In Indianapolis the scene was kinda of slow back then, i don’t think I would of accomplished a lot if i would of stayed because its not a major city where music is known, no real opportunities, the scene there is growing now through.

Flyteq: Would you or will you ever go back?

Darius: Yea one day because that’s home, but the industry that I’m in and the things I’m trying to accomplish not right now, because I have a lot going on out here, but thats where I’m from and I’ll represent til I die.

Flyteq: Cool cool. So how did you come into contact with Wordspit who introduced us at his release party?

Darius: His manager Dave, we’ve been friends for the past two years now, and we’ve hung out every time he came to Chicago when he was on tour with Estelle, I asked him were there any shows we could get on and he said yeah so that’s how we got that show.

Flyteq: Cool cool. So what can we expect from “The Rocketeers” soon? With out giving to much details cause we’ll go more into that with you guy’s FTM interview.

Darius: Well were doing a show at Syracuse University along with Wordspit Feb19th, were working on shooting a video right now. We also just started working on our next mixtape.
